Abstract:In communication testing, signal sources are required to generate broadband and diverse test signals; however, the effective output bandwidth is often limited by the system clock frequency. To extend the effective output bandwidth of multiple test signals, this paper designs and implements a multimode baseband signal parallel generation system based on field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The proposed system adopts a signal-oriented parallel generation architecture and supports the oversampled real-time generation of various baseband vector signals, including additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), amplitude shift keying (ASK), phase shift keying (PSK), frequency shift keying (FSK), single-tone/multi-tone, chirp and comb signals. In addition, the system supports combined output of selected signal types as well as flexible configuration of multiple parameters. Experimental results demonstrate that, under a 250 MHz operating clock, the proposed system achieves an effective output bandwidth exceeding 670 MHz, while maintaining continuous modulation phase and good waveform quality, with an error vector magnitude (EVM) below 2%. The proposed system provides a feasible FPGA-based hardware implementation for the flexible generation of broadband and multi-mode baseband test signals.
